Freedom Party condemns Masarat Alam’s re-arrest

“Shah barred again to offer Friday prayers”

Srinagar, Dec 30 (KNS): Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) on Friday slammed the state administration for re-arresting Masarat Alam Bhat saying by doing so; the authorities once again validated our point that there is no political space for the resistance leadership in the state.
In a statement issued to KNS, DFP Secretary General, Moulana Abdullah Tari while criticizing authorities said, “The government is scared of the resistance leadership. The attitude towards Masarat Alam Bhat is dictatorial and barbaric. There is no legal or constitutional justification of prolonging his incarceration. Slapping another PSA against Alam reveals nothing but frustration of the state administration.”
Tari also expressed strong resentment over the arrest of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat provincial president Abdul Gani Bhat, representatives and activists of Jama’at-e-Islami, Umat-e-Islami, JKLF, and other pro-freedom parties saying the thousands of arbitrary arrests has punctured the balloon of the so-called ‘battle of ideas’.
He said there is no doubt that PDP is just fulfilling the agenda of RSS in Jammu Kashmir.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Tari also condemned the continuous arrest of district presidents, representatives, and activists of Freedom Party saying, “Though these arrests are not new for us but it has been once again proved that there is no such thing as democracy or freedom of expression prevailing in the State.”
DFP Secretary General criticized authorities for their inhuman treatment against the thousands of prisoners in State and outside jails saying these prisoners are languishing from last 20 years and no step is taken to shift them to State. “Even their families are suffering the worst,” Tari said, and expressed solidarity with these families.
Meanwhile, as per DFP spokesperson, Shabir Ahmad Shah has been placed under house arrest since he was released from jail on Wednesday after six months.
“Shah was once again barred from offering Friday prayers. This is a direct interference in the religious affairs. By placing Shah under continuous detention, authorities want to create a gulf between leadership and people. Such acts are extremely condemnable,” he said. (KNS)
