Drug de-addiction programme held at GDC Pattan

Pattan Sept 20 (KNS): Govt. Degree College Pattan organized a one day awareness program on Nasha Mukt Bharat which was attended by deputy commissioner Baramulla (Dr Sehrish Asgar) officers from district administration, officers from health service department, social welfare department, media association, students and faculty of the college. The Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Sehrish Asgar presided over the program as Chief Guest. On the arrival of the dignitaries, the NSS units of the college including the NSS volunteers provided a warm welcome to them.

Principal of the college, Prof Tariq Ashai, after formally welcoming the chief guest and the other dignitaries asserted that Govt is trying its utmost to eradicate the menace called drug addiction from the society. He was of the opinion that drug is not an antidote to stress. He urged the students to seek pleasure from sports activities rather than seeking pleasure from drugs. He also stressed on vital importance of medical practitioners in eradicating this evil from the lives of the people.

Chief Guest, Dr Sehrish Asgar while lauding the efforts of the college and officers from health department, urged the students to let go the societal pressures as everything gets settled with time. One must be motivated to seek solution to one’s problems and one should not be ashamed to seek medical advice. One must take a pledge to abstain from drugs to safeguard the present as well as the future generation. She directed the officers from the administration to provide the helpline numbers for benefit of the masses.

Dr Akash Yousuf Khan, consultant psychiatrist, was of the opinion that childhood negligence, unaddressed mental illnesses, phobias, performance anxieties lead to drug dependence and ultimately to drug addiction.Dr Syed Arshad Hussain, consultant medicine also made the audience aware about the causes and consequences of the drug addiction. This was followed by pledge taking ceremony led by Dr Asiya Nazir  Khan. Moreover district social welfare officer, Pattan oriented the students about various social welfare schemes. 

Students of the college led by Subeena Javaid presented college Tarana. Haseeba Mushtaq presented Ladisha (a Kashmiri cultural song).This was followed by a skit performance by students of the college namely Nadim(Sem III), Shahid(Sem I), Aasim(Sem III), Shugufta Hamid (Sem III), Rabiya

Mushtaq(SemIII), Sabeeqa Sajad (Sem III), Huzaif Nazir (Sem I) and Mubashir Shafi ( Sem I) which enthralled the audience. Sheikh Bintul Huda(Sem VI)  presented her views through PowerPoint presentation .

Later, Principal of the college eulogized the efforts put in by the Convener Health Committee, Cultural Committee and NSS Officers and officers from BMO Pattan for making the event a grand success. Towards the end, student performers were felicitated with the certificates of appreciation. BMO Pattan (Dr Mastoora) presented vote of thanks. This was followed by a student rally by NSS volunteers from the college to NH1. Prof Nayeem Ahmad Shah acted as rapporteur andMr. Mohd Shafi Parra(from BMO Office) conducted the proceedings of the program.
