Dilapidated building, poor facilities hit Rawoocha girls school

Baramulla, May 2(KNS): Government Girls Middle School Rawoocha in Rafiabad area of Baramulla district is grappling with severe infrastructure deficiencies, forcing students to study in unsafe and inadequate conditions, residents and parents said.

Locals said the school building is in a dilapidated state, with damaged structures and a weakened boundary wall posing safety risks to students. The fencing around the premises is also in poor condition, leaving the campus vulnerable, they added.

A key concern flagged by residents is the lack of proper sanitation facilities. The school has only a single common washroom for both boys and girls, which is in bad condition, raising concerns among parents, especially for girl students.

“The absence of separate washrooms is creating discomfort and affecting attendance of girls,” a parent said.

Residents said the situation worsens during the rainy season as water seeps into classrooms, leading to waterlogging and disruption of academic activities.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThey added that the building has been declared nearly unsafe by school authorities.

Due to shortage of space, corridors have been converted into makeshift classrooms to accommodate students, which locals said is not conducive for learning.

“It is unfortunate that children are studying in such conditions. They deserve better facilities,” a resident said, urging immediate intervention.

Residents have demanded construction of a new school building, proper boundary wall and separate sanitation facilities, and called on authorities to take swift action to ensure a safe learning environment.(KNS)
