Srinagar, Jun 19 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat on Friday flagged off 45 Mountain Rescue Teams (MRTs) for deployment along the Pahalgam and Baltal routes for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026, officials said.
The flag-off ceremony was held at the SDRF 1st Battalion premises here.
The multi-agency teams comprise personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Jammu and Kashmir Armed Police (JKAP), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), they said.
Senior officers, including S.J.M. Geelani, Abdul Gani Mir, Anand Jain, V.K. Birdi, Sujit Kumar, and Ashok Yadav, were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Commandant General HG/CD and SDRF J&K Abdul Gani Mir lauded the preparedness of the rescue teams and stressed the need for close coordination and round-the-clock availability to assist pilgrims in the high-altitude terrain.

DGP Prabhat interacted with the personnel and commended their role in disaster response, particularly praising the SDRF for its performance during the recent Gulmarg Gondola rescue operation, officials said.
He called upon the MRT personnel to remain vigilant and fully prepared to handle any emergency during the yatra.
The DGP also inspected the rescue equipment and reviewed operational readiness before flagging off the contingents, they added.
The deployed personnel have undergone specialised training in mountain rescue, avalanche response, and disaster mitigation, officials said. (KNS)
