Srinagar, Oct 25 (KNS): J&K state Commission for women on Tuesday said that while the society at large has gone through tumultuous times because of the unrest, women folk of the state in particular have borne the brunt of it all.
In a statement issued to KNS, it said that “Kashmiri women who have gone through the added trouble of political turmoil of 90`s, further aggravated by the loss of near and dear ones, have been the victims of first order.”
The statement added that these problems compounded by other societal issues have been instrumental in the spikes of domestic violence, marital disputes, mental disorders, cases of molestation and harassment at work-spaces and at homes.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
They said that J&K State Commission for women has been receiving voluminous number of cases daily even in-spite of the shutdowns for the last three months.
“Concerned over the spurt in the number of cases as a consequence of the unrest, we need to cast a re-look over the issues and figure out how best we can address it humanely and in that Commission will stand shoulder to shoulder with everybody. Commission also requests all responsible citizens to come forward to help us in resolving the issues concerning women,” they said.
The commission said that these problems if not addressed now will snowball into a major disaster at a later stage. (KNS)
