Srinagar, Dec 3 (KNS): A local court has awarded three years imprisonment former Tehsil officer of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution department for corruption.
Additional Judge Anti-Corruption Pulwama, Virinder Singh Bhou convicted Mohammad Mansoor Malik, former Supervisor and Incharge Tehsil Officer CA&PD Circle Zainapora, Shopian, to three years imprisonment and fine of Rs 25,000.
Malik was booked under J&K Prevention of Corruption Act in 2009 by Vigilance Organization Kashmir following a complaint by Sabzar Ahmad of Reshipora, Shopian, who was running a fair Price Shop, that the former demanded and accepted Rs. 10,000 as bribe for issuing a report in respect of various applications that had been endorsed to him by the Assistant Director CA&PD Department.
“After probe, a case of criminal misconduct was registered against the accused Malik on the basis of evidence oral, documentary as well as circumstantial, and subsequently charge sheet was filed against him before the Special Judge Anti-corruption Kashmir,” a VOK official told KNS.
The Judge found the accused Malik guilty and convicted him for 2 years imprisonment for the commission of offence under section 5(2) J&K P.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelC Act and fine of Rs. 20000, the official said.
“The accused was also ordered to undergo further imprisonment of 6 months in default of payment of fine. Further, the accused has also being convicted with simple imprisonment of one year and fine of Rs. 5000 for commission of offences under section 161 RPC. The convictions shall run concurrently,” he said.
The Court has ordered that in case the fine is paid by and recovered from the convicted accused Rs. 10,000 shall be paid to the complainant. The accused was taken into custody on the spot and sent to Central Jail Srinagar, he said.
Meanwhile, SVO said that the corruption watch dog has been successful in obtaining eight convictions in this year.
“To expedite disposal of cases Vigilance Organisation has also produced challan of 22 cases in various Anti-Corruption Courts of the state this year and also registered 83 FIR cases against various corrupt officers, officials of different departments till date,” he said. (KNS)
