New Delhi, Sep 4 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and strongly pushed for early restoration of statehood to the Union Territory, asserting that it was essential for strengthening democratic institutions and administrative efficiency in the region.
During the nearly hour-long meeting at the Home Minister's North Block office, CM Omar also raised the issue of finalisation of the Transaction of Business Rules, which would delineate the powers and functioning of the elected government in the UT. He further sought rationalisation of the reservation policy, arguing that it needed to be revisited to ensure equitable opportunities for all sections of society.
The chief minister's office in a post on X said the Chief Minister flagged several public welfare and development concerns, including the pending release of funds for various centrally sponsored schemes.

CM Omar Abdullah also briefed Shah about the First International Film Festival of Jammu and Kashmir (IFFJK), scheduled to commence in Srinagar next week. He described the event as a major cultural milestone for the region and sought the Centre's support in positioning it as an annual global platform for cinema and art.
The Chief Minister thanked the Home Minister for the Centre's timely assistance in the wake of flood-related damage across several districts of J&K. He appreciated the swift deployment of central teams and release of relief funds, which he said had significantly aided the ongoing restoration efforts. (KNS)
