Congress MLCs stage walkout

Srinagar, Oct 07 (KNS): The chairman Legislative Council on Wednesday revoked the suspension orders of two National Conference members who were expelled for creating ruckus in the Upper House for not allowing discussion on Article 35 A.
The Chairman Ananyat Ali revoked the suspension the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh and Congress MLCs in the upper House requested him.
As soon as the proceeding of the Council started, the Congress members stood up from their chairs and requested the Chairman to revoke the suspension orders of two NC members.
The chairman announced his decision and directed Congress MLC G N Monga to convey the message to the NC members.
“I am revoking the suspension of NC members and want them to return to the counsel and attend the rest of the session. Let Monga sahab to convey the orders to the NC members and bring them back to the house,” he said.
However, when Monga returned he informed the council that the former chief minister Omar Abdullah has conveyed to him that he would take a decision on attending the rest of the session soon.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
However, NC did not attend the proceeding in both the Houses despite revocation of suspension of their members.
Meanwhile, Congress requested chairman to start discussion on adjournment motion on power tariff hike in the state, which led to a brief exchange of verbal duel between the Opposition and the Treasury benches.
The chairman, however, asked the Congress MLCs they will be given half an hour to discuss the power tariff. “We will give you time to discuss it,” the chairman said.
However, the speaker’s assurance failed to pacify the Congress members who staged walkout. “There has been huge hike in power tariffs and government has failed to address this grave issue. This is an important issue which needs to be debated on priority,” the angry Congress members said. (KNS)
