Srinagar, Apr 05 (KNS): After remaining closed for the four consecutive days, the educational institutions in the Valley barring southern districts opened on Thursday.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan had told KNS that the normal academic activities will resume in educational institutions except Shopian and Kulgam.

However, the students in various educational institutions including Kashmir University, Central University Kashmir, Bemina Degree College Srinagar, Amar Singh College Srinagar, Women’s College M. A. Road Srinagar, GDC Sumbal, Degree College Kupwara and Degree College Handwara staged protest against the Shopian carnage.
The students also clashed with the government forces during which forces used tear gas canisters to disperse the agitating students.
The students were seen chanting slogans against the Shopian killings and in favour of freedom.
At Kashmir University, the students staged massive protests inside the campus against Kashmir killings.
Witnesses said that scores of students from various departments assembled inside the campus premises and marched in University campus while shouting anti-government, pro-Azadi and anti-India slogans.
The protesting students were also carrying banners reading, ‘Stop Genocide’, Free Kashmir’ ‘Stop killings’.
At Central University Kashmir Nowgam, the students held protest at campus.
Witnesses said that the students held a peaceful protest at the campus to condemn the killings and express solidarity with their families.
Funeral prayers in absentia were also offered for the slain militants and the civilians.
Pro-freedom and pro-militant slogans were raised by the students during the demonstration.
The students as per the reports also hailed the statement of Pakistani cricketer Shahid Afridi who called the UN to intervene and stop the bloodshed in Kashmir.
At Bemina Degree College Srinagar, the students took to streets to protest against the killings.
Reports said that dozens of students assembled at the Bemina Degree College and tried to take out a protest rally against the recent killings.
Students of various departments gathered and started to take out a protest rally.
However, the deployed forces didn’t allow them to move ahead ensuing clashes during which forces used tear gas canisters to disperse the agitating students.
The students of Islamia College of Science and Commerce at Hawal as per the reports also tried to take out a protest rally.
However, forces personnel fired tear gas to disperse the protesting students.
At Amar Singh College, the students clashed with forces after they protested against the Shopian killings.

Reports said that the agitating students of Amar Singh College also set a forces picket ablaze during the clashes.
They added that the protesting students reached the forces picket located near Indore Stadium and set it ablaze.
At Women’s college Srinagar, scores of girl students assembled near Pratap Park in this afternoon to protest against the Shopian killings,.
The girl students were seen chanting slogans in favour of justice and freedom.
Soon after the protests, the shopkeepers in Lal Chowk area pulled their shutters down as the students pelted stones on forces in the locality.
A Shopkeeper whose shop is located near Ganta Ghar told KNS that all the shops in the area were closed after students started pelting stones on forces.
At Government Degree College Sumbal, the students offered funeral prayers in absentia for those who were killed in Shopian.
The students gathered inside the premises of GDC Sumbal and offered funeral prayers in absentia for slain militants and civilians.
Later, the students as per the reports carried out a rally and marched to Irrigation Colony in Sumbal.
Reports said that minor clashes also erupted after the students pelted the forces with stones.
At Kupwara College, scores of students clashed with government forces today.
The students raising anti-India and pro-freedom slogans tried to march towards the road.
However, police and paramilitary forces as per the reports intercepted them, and fired tear gas to disperse them.
The students later pelted stones on forces.
At GDC Handwara, clashes erupted between students and government forces today.
The students tried to take out a protest rally but were stopped by the government forces resulting in clashes.
During the clashes between students and forces, scores of students as per the reports sustained minor injuries.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Range, Swayam Parakash Pani told Kashmir News Service (KNS) that miscreants at few places pelted stones on forces. “The forces exercised utmost restraint while dealing with the miscreants today,” he said.
He also said that the two police officials have sustained injuries during the clashes today.
IGP however said that the overall situation remained under control.
Notably, the educational institutions across the Valley were closed since Monday following the Shopian carnage.
13 militants, four civilians and three Army troopers were killed during separate encounters in south Kashmir’s Anantnag and Shopian district on Sunday.
The Valley also observed complete shutdown for the four consecutive days to mourn the killings in Kashmir.
A youth also succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday at SKIMS following which the government has initiated magisterial inquiry into his death. (KNS)
