Srinagar, Oct 29: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday told the Assembly that Bandipora town has been included under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme, and several pending urban development projects will be executed under the UT Capex Plan in the coming financial years.

Responding to a question by MLA Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, the Housing and Urban Development Department said a Water Supply Scheme for Bandipora town was initially proposed under AMRUT 2.0 but could not be taken up due to funding limits. The Union Territory Level Steering Committee has now decided to cover such projects under the Capex budget on a priority basis.

The government maintained that Bandipora’s Municipal Council is already at par with other developed municipalities of J&K, citing improvements in infrastructure and civic services.

Projects are being implemented through multiple funding channels including the UT Capex Budget, Finance Commission Grants, National Green Tribunal and Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U 2.0).

According to the department, link roads, lanes, drains, and footpaths have been upgraded to improve connectivity and traffic movement across the town.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelInternal and arterial roads linking commercial and residential zones have received special attention.

The government also pointed to the creation of parks, community and marriage halls, and recreation centres, aimed at enhancing public amenities. Civic services like door-to-door waste collection, street cleaning, and dustbin installations have been expanded to improve sanitation.

A multi-level parking complex, expected to be completed soon, is likely to ease congestion in the town’s busy areas. A modern slaughterhouse is also being developed with dedicated zones for livestock holding, meat processing, and waste disposal to maintain hygiene standards and minimize environmental impact.

“These initiatives are part of a broader effort to build a sustainable, well-planned urban environment in Bandipora, comparable to other advanced towns of Jammu and Kashmir,” the department said. (KNS)
