Srinagar, Oct 29 (KNS): MLA Gulmarg Farooq Ahmad Shah on Wednesday expressed serious concern over the growing problem of food adulteration in Jammu and Kashmir, saying it directly affects the health and lives of people.
Speaking during the Question Hour in the Assembly as per KNS correspondent, Shah said many people are suffering from diseases like cancer, ulcers, and gastric problems due to unsafe and adulterated food.
He said the Food Safety Department has become “toothless” as nearly 50 percent of its posts are vacant, making it difficult to control food adulteration effectively. “The government must take this issue seriously and strengthen the department by filling vacant posts,” Shah said.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
He said that in the Western countries, food adulteration is treated as a serious crime, and “No religion allows adulteration. It is a crime against humanity,” he said. Shah urged the government to strengthen the Food Safety Department and ensure that only safe and healthy food reaches the people.
The MLA also pointed out that many food items coming from outside are not properly checked. “From Lakhanpur to Srinagar, there should be strict checking to stop entry of substandard food products,” he added.(KNS)
