RTIM ,JKCAG meets Chairperson PCC, submits memorandum

Srinagar Oct 29 (KNS) : A delegation of Jammu & Kashmir RTI Movement and J&K Climate Action Group -JKCAG headed by Chairman Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat met with Chairperson of Jammu & Kashmir Pollution Control Committee -JKPCC Mr Vasu Yadav- IFS, in Srinagar on Wednesday.

According to a press released issued ,The delegation handed over a memorandum to the Chairperson urging him to impose environmental compensation against the unscientific waste disposal in Newa Pulwama and illegal clay and riverbed mining in Budgam district.

“ I express my gratitude to JKPCC for acting swiftly on my complaint regarding the mining mafia and stopping the illegal Riverbed Mining in Doodh Ganga at Karlwari Borwah villages in Chadoora district Budgam recently. We hope that environmental compensation would be imposed on the agency involved in illegal mining for 3 days. We also demand that EC be imposed on MC Pulwama as well for unscientific waste dumping plus burning and burying the same” reads the memorandum submitted by Chairman RTI Movement and Founder of JKCAG Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat

Dr Raja Muzaffar was accompanied by Irshad Mushtaq, Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, Syed Riyaz, Younus Bhat and Shabir Musroof. The delegation also impressed upon the Chairman PCC Mr Vasu Yadav to curb illegal sand & clay mining in Karewas across Kashmir especially in Pulwama and Budgam

“ Illegal sand and clay mining is causing large scale environmental destruction especially Air pollution, dust Pollution in Newa Pulwama, Brarigund, Kultreh, Brinjan, Nowhar, Buzgoo,Nagam, Tangnad, Pallar Budgam, Shinpora Khansahib and dozens of other places in Budgam and Pulwama districts.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelJKPCC needs to act swiftly against this mafia and impose environmental compensation against the erring officials and people under Air Pollution Act 1981. The AQI is very bad in Budgam especially in these clay mining areas" the memorandum further reads

"The Chairman PCC Yadav gave us a patient hearing and we discussed a variety of issues including solution oriented programmes to be taken up by authorities especially regarding waste management, clay mining etc. We also discussed the menace of diapers used in Kashmir and its unscientific disposal in water bodies especially in rural areas. We put forward some suggestions before the Chairman PCC who assured to look into it seriously " said Irshad Mushtaq who was part of the delegation (KNS)
