Srinagar, Aug 05 (KNS): Authorities on Friday imposed strict curfew in parts of Srinagar and in two Southern districts to foil the Hazratbal chalo march called by the separatist leaders.
The separatist leadership including Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz, Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and JKLF chief Muhammad Yasin Malik in a joint statement had called for Hazratbal chalo on today.
However, a top official told KNS that strict curfew anmd restrictions were imposed in Kulgam, Pulwama, parts of Srinagar and in other parts of districts to foil the march.
A large contingent of police and paramilitary CRPF troopers were deployed on roads and streets and had erected concertina wires at every entry and exit points of Hazratbal.
Meanwhile, reports said that hundreds of people staged protest at Khanqah-e-Sokhta Nawa Kadal after forces foiled their attempt to march towards Hazratbal.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The protest led by Hurriyat (M) leader Masroor Abbas Ansari was detained by the forces.
Amid pro-Pakistan and pro-freedom slogans, the protesters tried to march towards Hazratbal.
Witnesses however said that the forces foiled their attempt and arrested Hurriyat (M) leader.
Notably, curfew and shutdown continue on the 28th day today in the Valley.
Separatist leaders had called for one day strike on July 9against the killing of Hizb commander, Burhan Wani. The leaders later extended the call and started giving protest programmes against the civilian killings during protests in Kashmir while the authorities imposed curfew and restrictions to thwart any possible protests over the killings.
