Tarigami Questions Govt’s Approach Towards Media, Says “No Clear Policy Even After Elections”

Srinagar, Oct 30 (KNS): CPI(M) leader and MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Thursday expressed concern over what he termed as the government’s “unclear and arbitrary” approach towards media policy in Jammu and Kashmir, even after the formation of an elected government.

Speaking during the Zero Hour of the ongoing Autumn Session of the Assembly, Tarigami said, “Now that an elected government is in place, there still doesn’t seem to be any clear or vibrant policy regarding the media,” adding that the situation remains unchanged despite assurances from the Information Department.

He pointed out that, according to the Reorganization Act and Business Rules, all institutions, except public undertakings and higher-level services, fall under the jurisdiction of the elected government.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“I don’t understand why, even now, many files related to advertisements are pending. There is no proper policy, and where files do exist, it’s unclear whether clearance has been given or not, and where exactly they are being held up,” he said.

He said that no proper criteria have been set which should have been followed. The names remained there only because of those who were in positions of authority,” he said, urging the government to ensure transparency and fairness in media-related policies and advertisement distribution.(KNS)
