Patient care hit, alleges nurses; Principal says nurses distributed properly

Srinagar, June 14 (KNS): As the government has started two departments in Super Specialty Hospital near GMC here, paramedical staff in SMHS said that it has hit the nursing manpower in the hospital.
The government has started specialised gastroenterology and neurosurgery departments in the newly inaugurated hospital and has deputed at least 52 nurses from SMHS hospital.
Two more departments-nephrology and urology- are being started in the hospital soon.
However, paramedics say that due to shifting of the 52 paramedics to the super specialty, the patient-care has been hit.
“Taking out 52 nurses from different wards and casualty from SMHS to the new hospital has mounted problems for patients,” they said.
They claimed that the GMC and its associated hospitals were already grappling with manpower shortage.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel“And the new circular has aggravated the issue,” they said.
However, GMC Principal Dr Kaiser Ahmad told KNS that the paramedical staff that has been shifted to the super specialty hospital was employed for it.
“Since it was not complete, these paramedics were utilized in SMHS. We have properly taken out and distributed the staff in super specialty so that it does not hit patientcare in SHMS,” Dr Kaiser told KNS.
But the nursing staff said that in Wards 1, 2,8 and 9 and in paid rooms, only one nurse each is attending the patients there.
“About 400 paramedics are working in GMC hospitals and they have been distributed as such so the patient-care is not affected,” the GMC principal said. (KNS)
