Bandipora, Oct 04 (KNS): Heaps of garbage and cow dung dumped along roadsides have become a common sight at several places across Bandipora district, raising concerns among residents over sanitation, public health and the cleanliness of major roads.

The situation is particularly concerning in and around Paribal, Aloosa, Ashtangoo and S.K. Payeen, Nesbal where residents said garbage and cow dung are being dumped along roadsides and public spaces, creating an unhygienic environment for commuters and local residents.

Residents alleged that despite repeatedly bringing the matter to the notice of the concerned authorities, no effective action has been taken to prevent roadside dumping or ensure regular cleaning of the affected stretches.

Similar scenes, according to locals, can also be witnessed along the Srinagar–Bandipora road near Nesbal and Saderkoot, as well as on the Sopore–Bandipora road and in several other areas of the district.

Locals said that some households were allegedly dumping household waste, cow dung and other waste material along the roadside instead of disposing of it at designated places.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Residents of Sumbal, and Bandipora urged the district administration and concerned municipal authorities to identify those responsible for roadside dumping and take action as per law.

They also called for regular sanitation drives, proper waste collection and monitoring of vulnerable locations to prevent the roadsides from turning into dumping grounds.

Residents expressed concern that the accumulation of garbage and animal waste could create an unhygienic environment and increase the risk of foul smell, contamination and the spread of infections, particularly during changing weather conditions.

An officer, when contacted, said that strict action would be taken against those found dumping garbage and cow dung along roadsides, and assured that the matter would be looked into.

The locals have appealed to the District Administration Bandipora to personally intervene and ensure immediate cleanliness of the affected areas, besides taking action against habitual offenders. (KNS)
