Year On, PDD Fails To Make Transformer Functional In Kupwara's Hirri Village

Kupwara, Dec 09 (KNS): The residents of the Hirri village north Kashmir's Kupwara district  alleged the Power Development Department (PDD) of failing to make the newly installed transformer functional in their area since last one year.

The residents of Sheikh-Mohalla and Kumar-Mohalla in the Hirri village told the Kashmir News Service (KNS),  that one year has passed since the Power Development Department (PDD) installed a new electricity transformer for their area, but unfortunately, after the installation, it has not been functional yet and the reason is yet to be known.

"We are facing tremendous hardships due to the apathy of the officials in the department," Mehnaza a local said, adding that the authorities should take immediate measures to redress this genuine issue.

"We have been approaching the concerned authorities for the past year but the only word we get to hear from them is that it will be done soon," Ameena another women said.

They people of the village also registered a protest demonstration and blocked Karnah-Kupwara road. Raising slogans against PDD, the protesters requested Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to consider their pleas following which they dispersed peacefully.

Meanwhile, an official said that the work was done by the project wing of PDD and the inspection for the same has not being done so far. "Once the inspection will be done at the spot the transformer will be charged following which will be made functional by PDD," he said.

He however said that they have once again communicated the project wing for early inspection so that transformer can be made functional as soon as possible.(KNS)
