World Environment Day Celebrated at Health Block Bandipora

Bandipora June, 06 (KNS): World Environment Day is the biggest international day for the environment, led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and held annually since 1973, the event has grown to be the largest global platform for environmental outreach, with millions of people from across the world engaging to protect the planet.

Under the banner of Shafaaf Bandipora flagged off by Deputy commissioner Bandipora , Dr Owais Ahmad ,under the leadership of Dr B.A Khan ,CMO Bandipora ,& Block Medical Officer Dr Masarat Iqbal Wani, cleanliness drive was started around various health institutions of health block bandipora. People were made aware about the ill effects of polluted environment on their health.

World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated annually on 5 June ,first held in 1973, it has been a platform for raising awareness on environmental issues such as marine pollution, overpopulation, global warming, and wildlife crime.

World Environment Day is a global platform for public outreach, with participation from over 143 countries annually. Each year, the program has provided a theme and forum for businesses, non government organizations, communities, governments and celebrities to advocate environmental causes.

Each year, World Environment Day is hosted by a different country where the official celebrations take place. The host country for 2022 is Sweden.(KNS)
