Srinagar, March 06:(KNS)  A week-long virtual workshop on ‘Research Methodology in Literary Studies and Humanities’ on Sunday concluded at the Department of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Management (HSS&M), National Institute of Technology (NIT ).

The workshop was convened by Dr. Nasir F. Butt, Assistant Professor from department of HSS&M, while Dr. Jaya Shrivastava, Dr. Sumaira Jan, Dr. Mohd. Rafiq Teli and Dr. Nufazil Ahangar were the coordinators of the event. 

The workshop was attended by more than 200 participants from different states including Jammu & Kashmir, Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttrakhand, Delhi, Kerala as well as from the neighboring countries via Google Meet and YouTube platforms.

The valedictory function was presided over by Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Sehgal, who was also the chief patron of the workshop.

He congratulated the Department of HSS&M for organizing a workshop on a relevant topic and taking a step to orient the participants about the various contemporary and recent trends in research in literature and Humanities.

Prof. Sehgal said all sessions of the workshop were an eye-opener for all participants and NIT Srinagar will be organizing such workshops in the future also so that more participants can get benefited from these initiatives.

Institute’s Registrar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari appreciated the organizers for providing a vibrant platform to all the participants. 

"It was a successful event and all the participants have gained a lot from this workshop, which was the main purpose of the program,” he said.

In his special address Head of Department, HSS&M Prof. Abdul Liman mentioned the laurels that the department has achieved and new initiatives that have been taken for the expansion of the department.

While appreciating the organizers, Prof. Liman said the primary aim of the workshop was that scholars and researchers would acquire advanced skills of various critical approaches and methodological tools in research in the field of literature and humanities.

The weeklong workshop had nine academic sessions. The sessions were conducted by distinguished resource persons from IITs and other renowned central and state universities across the country.

The first session of the workshop commenced with the lectures by Prof. Smita Jha, Senior Professor, and Dr. Aruni Mahapatra, Assistant Professor, from the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Roorkee.

The subsequent sessions throughout the next four days were conducted by Prof. Anil Raina, Senior Professor, Dept. of English & Cultural Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Prof. Roshan Lal Sharma, former Dean of School of Humanities and Languages and former  Head of the Department of English and European Languages CU HP; Dr. Vandana Sharma, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of English CU Jammu.

Dr. Narendra Kumar, Associate Professor, Dept of Humanities and Social Sciences, LNM Institute of Information and Technology, Jaipur, Rajasthan, Dr. Bhatt Iqbal Majeed, Assistant Professor, Deptt. of Social Work, CUJ Jammu; and Dr. Mohd. Ameen, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of English from the University of Kashmir.

The concluding session of the workshop had an illuminating lecture delivered by Dr. Isha Malhotra, Assistant Professor & officiating Head, School of Language and Literature, Sri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra (J&K) and Dr. Raj Thakur, Assistant Professor, Department of English, CUJ Jammu.

A formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Nasir F. Butt. He expressed his gratitude to Director NIT Srinagar, Head of the Department, resource persons, faculty members, research scholars, NIT Srinagar’s technical team for making the event a grand success.

 Dr. Nasir said after the expert talk in every session, the participants actively engaged in the question-answer session where all their doubts were cleared by the speakers.

He said all the sessions received positive feedback from the participants in the comments section of Google Meet as well as the YouTube platform. An MCQ-based test was also conducted at the end of the workshop to assess the impact of the workshop on the participants. Dr. Nasir said.(KNS)
