 Srinagar, Mar 09:(KNS)   A week-long high-end training workshop on '5 Axis CNC Machine' began at  National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar, and more than 150 participants attended the inaugural session of the event.

The program is organized by the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneur Development Centre (IIEDC) and is sponsored by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), under Accelerate Vigyan (Kaaryashala scheme) of DST.

The inaugural session of the workshop was presided over by Director NIT Srinagar, Er. Hafeezullah Khan was the chief guest for the session while Dr. Dinesh Kumar Rajendran is the coordinator of the program.

In his presidential address, Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Sehgal expressed his gratitude to the HOD Department of Mechanical Engineering and Head IIEDC for considering this idea and making it practically possible.

"These days it is not easy to get funding, they have been able to get this funding through 'Accelerate Vigyan scheme of DST', which itself speaks about their interest.

Prof. Sehgal said NIT Srinagar has recently procured a machine of over 5. Crores rupees '5 Axis machine' and such a high-end machine is not available in any of technical institutions in this region," he said.

"We should take benefit of such machines and allot small projects to our students so that they can go for part programming. Skilled manpower is need of the hour," he said.

Prof. Sehgal said that all 10 sessions of the workshop will be beneficial for the participants. There are also separate video tutorials for the participants and it will boost their confidence," he said.

" NIT Srinagar is now gaining momentum and we are becoming visible to the outside world because of its research work, activities, and rankings," he said. 

Registrar NIT Srinagar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari said during the last four years, under the dynamic leadership of Prof. Rakesh Sehgal, NIT Srinagar is taking lead at all fronts by organizing various workshops, international conferences. 

"Despite Covid19, NIT Srinagar organized more than 30 workshops and half a dozen international conferences during the past three years,' he said.

Prof. Bukhari also stated that NIT's NIRF ranking also jumped 150+ places this year and two departments also got NBA accreditation. Despite Covid19, placement percentage was also increased during the past two years, he said.

Apart from starting new PG courses, Prof. Bukhari said NIT Srinagar has shown tremendous growth in the areas of research and development, which is visible by the number of projects sanctioned in favor of faculty and the number of research articles that have been published in top journals," he said.

 

"I hope that this workshop proves to be a stepping stone towards the public-private partnership at our end. We have designed high-tech labs not only to be utilized for academicians but we invite practitioners from diverse fields to visit our labs and utilize them in the best possible way," Prof. Bukhari said.

 He said NIT Srinagar will be organizing similar workshops in the future, bringing the skilled trained workers in the valley.

Er. Hafeezulla Khan in his key address shared his vast experience of over 30 years in CNC machines since 1983 with the participants. He explained about different series of machines for industries.

He also shared his valuable suggestions, parameters with the participants and urged organizers that there should be a separate catalog for the students.

Dean Research & Consultancy Dean Research and Consultancy, Prof. (HAG) M. F. Wani in his address said the focus of this workshop is to help the participants to acquire the requisite skills and knowledge for undertaking future research assignments requiring high standards.

 Head Innovation, Incubation & Entrepreneurship Development Centre (IIEDC) and Convener of the workshop, Prof. Saad Parvez Centre explained about the 5 Axis CNC machining center facility and the utilities in the industry.

He said with this new machine, NIT will get connected to the industry, and recently Director Industries of Kashmir visited the high-end machine and shared his feedback.

Dr. Saad also expressed his gratitude to NIT Srinagar Prof. Sehgal, Registrar Prof. Bukhari, Prof. MF Wani for their support in these initiatives. I am thankful to Prof. Noor Zaman, who worked hard in the procurement process of this machine, he said.

HoD Mechanical Engineering Department and Convener of the workshop, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Sheikh said addressed the participants about the journey of the department.

He said this workshop primarily focuses on young potential researchers and innovators with an aim to expose them to CNC technologies and in spending quality time in the premier institutions as well as to empower them for best practices.

 The coordinators of the workshop include Dr. Dinesh Kumar Rajendran, Assistant Professor, MED, Dr. Noor Zaman Khan, Assistant Professor, MED, Dr. Mohammad Mohsin Khan Assistant Professor, MED.

While Dr. Abhijit Dey, Assistant Professor, Dr. Deepak Kumar Naik Assistant Professor, MED are the co-coordinators of the workshop.

Earlier the event began with the welcome address by the program Coordinator Dr.Dinesh Kumar Rajendran who welcomed the dignitaries, participants, and resource persons. He also explained the motto of workshop and speakers from all across the country.

A formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr.Deepak Kumar Naik. He expressed his gratitude to Director NIT Srinagar, Head of the Department, resource persons, for making the inaugural event a grand success.(KNS)
