Police probe prison-linked network allegedly targeting women for separatist propaganda; more arrests likely

Bandipora, Nov 6 (KNS): Police on Friday arrested two more persons in connection with an alleged prison-linked separatist module operating in Bandipora district, taking the total number of arrests in the case to eight.

The arrests were made as part of the ongoing investigation into a module allegedly associated with a banned organisation and accused of targeting women for separatist indoctrination and propaganda, police said.

The arrested persons have been identified as Irshad Ahmed Bhat, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, a resident of Chakloo in Baramulla, and Showkat Ahmed Reshi, son of Ghulam Mohammad Reshi, a resident of Watlab in Sopore.

Police said both were taken into custody in connection with FIR No. 168/2026, registered under Sections 10 and 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

With the latest arrests, the number of persons apprehended in the case has risen to eight, while further arrests are expected as investigators examine the alleged network's wider connections.

According to police, the module, which was busted earlier in the district, had suspected links with individuals lodged in prison and was allegedly involved in propagating separatist ideology among women.

Investigators are examining the extent of the arrested persons' alleged involvement and working to identify other associates and possible links connected with the module.

Police said the investigation was continuing and reiterated their commitment to dismantling networks involved in activities prejudicial to peace and security in the region. (KNS)
