IGP says civilian killed in indiscriminate firing by militants who came out from the house

 

Srinagar, Feb 25 (KNS): Two militants of LeT and a civilian were killed during an encounter in Amshipora area of Shopian on Friday morning, police said here.

In a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS) Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone, Vijay Kumar said that during a search operation hiding militants came out and resorted to indiscriminate firing, in which one civilian got seriously wounded and later succumbed to his injuries.

The statement reads that based on a specific input of police about the presence of militants in Amshipora, a joint operation was launched during the late night of and after a cluster of houses were taken into cordon, following the drill civilians were evacuated to safety.

"Thereafter, house to house searches were started in the wee hours to locate the hiding militants. During the searches, militants came out and resorted to indiscriminate firing. In the indiscriminate firing of the militants one civilian namely Shakeel Ahmed khan son of Abdul Rahim Khan of Amshipora got seriously wounded. The injured civilian while being evacuated for medical help succumbed to the injuries," it reads .

It reads that militants' fire was retaliated effectively in which both militants were neutralized and were identified as Muzamil Ahmad Mir and Shariq Ayoob-both residents of Shopian.

It reads that Muzamil was involved in several crimes and both slain belonged to LeT outfit. "Incriminating materials including arms (one AK 56 rifle and one pistol) and ammunitions were also recovered," it reads. (KNS)
