Srinagar, Sep 27 (KNS) : Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's advisor Nasir Aslam Sogami on Sunday called the BJP the "enemy" of Jammu and Kashmir, accusing it of opposing the statehood restoration promise it made during elections and of never wanting people here to get their legal rights.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of World Tourism Day, Nasir Sogami as per news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) said, "I want you to understand that BJP is the enemy of Jammu and Kashmir. They never want the people of Jammu and Kashmir to get their rights, and the rights that have been guaranteed to us by the law. And no small person has guaranteed it."
Referring to the Assembly resolution seeking restoration of statehood, he said the commitment was made by Parliament, the Prime Minister, and the Home Minister. "I don't understand what they are angry about. And why have they come to such a point that they are opposing something that they themselves claimed during the elections," he said.
"Either they don't know how to read English, or they have such a block in their mind that they don't even want to listen. They should read the resolution voluntarily. Two resolutions have already been passed by the Assembly, and their reference has been given."
Nasir Aslam Sogami asserted the resolution is "the property of the House" and remains valid regardless of who is in power. "Today's resolution is to restore statehood. This is the property of the House. Whether we are there or not, this is the property of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.

He said the National Conference-led government has been consistently pursuing the matter with the Lieutenant Governor and security officials, but the final decision rests elsewhere. "We are always trying to do this. We have also talked about this. We have also requested the LG. We have also requested the security officials. This is their decision. This is the difficulty."
Accusing the BJP of wanting people to "lose control," Sogami said, "We are not asking for statehood for ourselves. Dr Farooq is not asking for himself. He is not asking for his community. This is the power of the people. Whether we are there or not, the people should get the power."
"We have not come here to stay permanently. Whatever Allah has written, and whatever people will decide tomorrow, we will make it. But they should have the power."
On the security situation, he said the government was unable to control certain destinations due to a lack of an adequate security system, and that the matter would be raised in the Assembly. "We have talked about this personally. We have talked about this at various forums. But this decision is somewhere else. You should also go and ask this question to them."
He said the government has framed a policy and constituted a committee, adding, "It will not be more than that. Let them decide." (KNS)
