Dec 12:(KNS) Authorities on Wednesday suspended traffic movement on the road connecting Karnah to Kupwara following fresh snowfall.

An official said that It started snowing at Sadhana pass yesterday evening and still snowing and as a precautionary measure the traffic movement has been suspended on the road.

As per the official record, 2.5 ft of snow was recorded at Sadhna top today at noon while plains areas in the district have received 5 to 10 inches snow.
There were reports of over 3 feet snow accumulations at Farkkiyan top and Jumagand areas of district Kupwara due to which major roads connecting these areas with the district headquarters have closed.
As per official sources Jada, upper Nachian, Shamispora, Jabdi Forward received 1 foot snowfall as recorded at noon and it was continuously snowing when the reports were filed.
“Due to the fresh snowfall in the area, the Karnah- Kupawara road has been closed for precautionary measures, If there will be an improvement in the weather then hopefully clearance will be started, official added.

However, the snowfall and incessant rains in the plain areas have led to landslides and slippery conditions on the roads in Teetwal block of Kupwara district causing blockade and slowdown in traffic movement(KNS)
