Curfew like restrictions were put in place in old city of Srinagar on Monday to thwart any protest demonstration towards the martyrs’ graveyard Maqshband Sahib.
According to KNS correspondent, concertina wires and barricades were placed in the middle of the roads at several places of downtown Srinagar in bid to foil any protest march.
Kashmir’s separatist leadership earlier had issued call for a joint rally at martyrs graveyard, asking people to march towards the Naqashband Sahib shrine on July 13.
Authorities on Sunday clamped a crackdown on pro-freedom camp, detaining Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Geeelani and JKLF chief Mohammad Yasin Malik at their respective residences.
Besides several other leaders, Aga Syed Hassan and Huriyat (G) spokesman continues to remain under house arrest since Sunday
Shops and business establishments remained closed on Monday in view of the restrictions imposed by the government.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelPrivate and commercial transport remained off the roads with people preferring to stay indoors. People from various areas complained that they were not allowed to move outside their homes and even if some people tried to reach their respective places of work, they were asked by forces to stay back.
Meanwhile, police spokesman said that the day passed off peacefully with no untoward incident reported from any place on Monday.
It was on 13th July in 1931 when the Dogra troops killed 22 Kashmiris, outside the Central Jail in Srinagar. They had gathered in the jail premises to attend the court proceedings against one, Abdul Qadeer, who had asked the Kashmiri people to defy the Dogra rule.
