ANANTNAG, JULY 15:(KNS) Director Rural Development Department (RDD) Kashmir, Tariq Ahmad Zargar Wednesday issued directions to officers of the department for ensuring timely payment of wages under MGNREGA adding the same has become more significant in post lockdown times.

The Director made these remarks while chairing a meeting to take stock of developmental and wage employment works undertaken by RDD in the district, at Verinag, Dooru on the sidelines of Advisor Baseer Khan's visit to the subdivision. The meeting was attended by ACD, Ideel Saleem, Exen REW, BDOs and other concerned functionaries of the department.


After taking a comprehensive review, the Director stressed to explore all possibilities for generating labour intensive works maintaining they provide employment to rural people at their doorsteps and become more essential during present circumstances. He called for strict adherence to COVID-19 SOPs at work/project sites so as to avert chances of resurgence in infections. 

Emphasising on ramping up the pace of work, Zargar said that work completion within stipulated timeframe is an important parameter associated with development process which must be given due consideration.

Zargar directed the BDOs and field functionaries to conduct spot visits in their respective areas for monitoring the quality and standard of ongoing works. He also enjoined upon them to regularly participate in Social Audit Gram Sabhas besides promptly addressing the public grievances and complaints. 

During the proceedings, the ACD gave an overview of the developmental and wage employment projects and works taken by the department in the district. Besides, he briefed the meeting about the current status of various developmental works and initiatives that have been taken during the ongoing season.(KNS)
