Board scraps two-decade-old eligibility restriction for Classes 10, 11, 12 and other examinations

Srinagar, Oct 21 (KNS): Students who score less than 20 per cent marks in a subject will no longer be barred from seeking re-evaluation of their answer scripts, with the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) withdrawing a restriction that had been in place since 2006.

Until now, students were eligible to apply for re-evaluation only if they had secured at least 20 per cent marks in the subject concerned. Those falling below the threshold could not seek a fresh assessment of their answer scripts.

In a notification issued on Wednesday, JKBOSE withdrew the condition, allowing students to apply for re-evaluation irrespective of their marks.

The change applies to Class 10, Class 11 and Class 12 examinations, besides the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) and Jammu and Kashmir State Open School examinations for Classes 10 and 12.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

The notification, issued by Director Academics Dr Parveen Singh, modifies an earlier order dated May 29, 2006, which had restricted re-evaluation to candidates securing 20 per cent or more marks in a subject.

The removal of the restriction means that even students securing very low marks can now seek re-evaluation, provided they apply within the prescribed timeline and pay the applicable fee.

However, the Board has not changed the remaining rules governing re-evaluation.

JKBOSE has also clarified that the decision will have prospective effect, indicating that the revised eligibility criteria will apply to future re-evaluation processes rather than reopening earlier cases.

The change removes a nearly 20-year-old eligibility barrier for students seeking a review of their examination results. (KNS)
