Students of KU affiliated colleges demand online exam, write to LG for intervention

Srinagar, Sept 19 (KNS): The students of the B-Tech courses of the colleges affiliated with the Kashmir University have written to the Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha, demanding online exam for the end-Term semester, while stating that the delay in exams is severely affected their careers.

They said that they have studied online since last three years, so it is against logic to ask them to take offline exams. "We want to go for internships and apply for jobs outside Kashmir, but delay in exams has added to our trauma," they said.

“With due respect we the students of IOT Zakura Campus U.O.K and SSM Parishaspora Pattan request you that the online exams should be held to avoid unnecessary travel amid the rising cases of Covid19 in Srinagar district. Many students have to come from far off places as all the students are not residing in the Srinagar area but most of them have to come from places like Bandipora , Baramulla , Budgam , Pahalgam or some other places of South Kashmir,” reads the letter.

It reads that the entry and exit points of the colonies of some students have been sealed as well and travelling locally is not safe at the moment due to the looming threat of the third wave of Covid19.

“Gradually, Srinagar is emerging as Covid-19 epicentre where neither hostel accommodation nor rented room facility is available for students who are from far off places. While university is forcing us to appear for offline examination, if any student gets infected by COVID-19, the whole examination process will get postponed which would lead to the further delay in the completion of our degree. Moreover our degree is already late by 3 months,” it reads

The letter reads that rising cases of COVID-19 could lead to harmful consequences as it poses threat not only to students but their family and others as well.

“When the students were taught whole syllabus online in the pattern feasible for online exams, then how are the offline exams justified. University of Jammu is holding the exams in online mode with the lowest number of cases while as University of Kashmir has decided to conduct offline exams despite the rise in the number of cases. Isn't this unfair that Unversity of Kashmir is conducting the exams of one or two departments in online mode and conducting exams in offline mode for others despite knowing the fact how they taught the students.”

It further reads that how can the students feel safe to appear for offline exams where one of the faculty member is presently in quarantine, moreover the college campus i.e IOT Zakura is still under the Disaster management as COVID Care Centre.

“So kindly look into this matter and resolve our geniune grievances by changing the mode of examination to online and conducting our examination early as a lot of opportunities are already missed and we don't want to miss anymore, so that justice prevails,” it reads. (KNS)
