SSTA SKUAST-K demands enhancement in retirement age

Srinagar April:(KNS)  SSTA, SKUAST-Kashmir demands the enhancement in retirement age of university faculty members from 62 to 65 years.

Giving the reference of G.B.Pant University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Central Universities of Jammu and Kashmir, President SSTA, Dr. Javeed Ahmad Mugloo pointed out that these universities have taken the lead in increasing the age of superannuation of their faculty to 65 years in tune with the recommendations of University Grants Commission (UGC). He further informed that State Universities are accepting all UGC requirements/regulations including qualification laid down for various posts. The age of superannuation of University teachers falling under different UT’s in India had already been enhanced to 65 years.

He appeals to Lt. Governor of J&K (U.T) who is the Chancellor of all the Universities in J&K, for enhancement of age to faculty members to 65yrs so as to retain the experienced human resource, to utilize their potential for quality teaching, research and extension which will be beneficial to the student community/farmers. This decision of Govt. can be helpful in overcoming shortage of experienced teachers and in newly reorganized union territory of J&K.

An increase in retirement age will greatly support qualified scientists to remain active and to contribute to vibrant economy of Jammu and Kashmir.(KNS)
