Srinagar, Oct 15 (KNS): Srinagar Police on Thursday said they had frozen and attached residential properties and a vehicle valued at over Rs 13.43 crore in connection with drug trafficking cases, extending their crackdown to assets identified during financial investigations.
The action was carried out by six police stations — Khanyar, Pantha Chowk, Shalteng, Safakadal, Soura and Ahmadnagar — under Sections 68-E and 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
According to police, the properties were identified during investigations into suspected proceeds of drug trafficking.
Police Station Khanyar accounted for the largest share of the action, attaching four residential properties and a vehicle valued at approximately Rs 8 crore.
The properties include a three-storeyed house worth Rs 1.60 crore belonging to Aijaz Ahmad Bhat of Khanyar and another residential property valued at Rs 2.50 crore belonging to Majid Ashraf Wani of Sheeshgari Mohalla.
Two houses valued at Rs 2.80 crore and Rs 1.10 crore, respectively, belonging to Shabir Ahmad Bangroo of Safakadal were also attached.
Police additionally attached a Volkswagen Polo valued at Rs 6.50 lakh in a case involving Aaqib Hyder Khan of Dalgate.
At Pantha Chowk, police attached a residential house worth Rs 1.24 crore belonging to Saqib Bashir Bhat, also known as Sakpal, of Khanmoh. Police said he was linked to NDPS cases registered at Pampore, Banihal and Khrew police stations.
In Shalteng, a two-storeyed residential house with one kanal of land, valued at Rs 1.21 crore, belonging to Danish Ahmad Bhat of Panzinara was frozen in connection with an NDPS case registered in 2023.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Police Station Safakadal attached a three-storeyed residential house with an attic, valued at Rs 10.15 lakh, belonging to Faizan Firdous Khanday, also known as Farzan Pujj.
Police said the property was linked to an investigation involving drug trafficking and offences registered under the NDPS Act, Arms Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
In the Hazratbal subdivision, Ahmadnagar Police reported action against residential properties valued at Rs 1 crore and Rs 80 lakh, both attributed in the statement to Adil Ahmad Patoo of Shah Mohalla, Ahmadnagar.
The statement did not clarify whether these were two separate properties or different valuations of the same property.
At Soura, police froze a residential house belonging to Khalid Nazir Chiloo of Lal Bazar, valued at approximately Rs 1.18 crore, excluding the land value.
Police said the proceedings were carried out under Sections 68-E and 68-F of the NDPS Act, which provide for identifying and freezing or seizing properties suspected to be linked to illicit drug trafficking.
Some proceedings were conducted in the presence of executive magistrates and local witnesses, police added.
The action covers investigations linked to cases registered between 2016 and 2026.
Police said the objective was to prevent persons involved in drug trafficking cases from retaining financial gains from the illegal trade.
The attachment of property forms part of proceedings under the NDPS Act and does not, by itself, establish criminal guilt.
Police said investigations and action against drug trafficking networks would continue. (KNS)
