Four accused in drug, arms case denied bail in Samba

Prosecution cites suspected international links; six other bail pleas disposed of in Jammu, Samba courts

Jammu, Oct 15 (KNS): A court in Samba has rejected the bail applications of four accused in a narcotics and arms case after the prosecution claimed that the suspects were part of an organised network involved in drug smuggling and weapons supply, with suspected links extending to Canada, the United States and other Western countries.

The four accused — Sourab Baloria, Vivek Kumar, Jugdeep Kour and Manmohit Singh — were denied bail by Additional Sessions Judge Samba Arvind Sharma on October 14 in connection with FIR No. 146/2026 registered at Police Station Vijaypur.

According to the Jammu and Kashmir Prosecution Department, Additional Public Prosecutor Kuldeep Bhat opposed the applications, submitting that the accused were suspected of operating as part of an organised criminal network involved in narcotics trafficking and weapons supply.

The prosecution also claimed that links with individuals in Canada, the United States and other Western countries had emerged during the investigation, raising concerns about the possible wider reach of the network.

The court rejected the bail applications after considering the seriousness of the accusations and the ongoing investigation, the department said.

The prosecution statement did not disclose the nature of the suspected overseas connections or the evidence cited to establish them.

The four orders were among ten bail-related applications disposed of by courts in Jammu and Samba districts between October 8 and 14.

In Jammu, four anticipatory bail applications relating to cases registered at Bahu Fort, Miran Sahib and Bakshi Nagar police stations came before First Additional Sessions Judge Amarjeet Singh Langeh on October 13.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Three applications were dismissed as not maintainable for failing to comply with a July 2, 2026, High Court notification. The fourth was withdrawn by the applicants with permission to file afresh.

In another case, the Second Additional Munsiff Jammu, Isha Jerath, rejected the bail application of Bhader Ali on October 12 in connection with FIR No. 172/2026 registered at Police Station Janipur.

The prosecution submitted that the accused was involved in eight FIRs and had not disclosed his criminal antecedents through the required affidavit. It also told the court that recovery of gold ornaments and cash remained pending.

Separately, Chief Judicial Magistrate Samba Smriti Sharma rejected a bail application on October 8 in a case registered in 2024.

The prosecution cited ten other pending FIRs against the accused and argued that his involvement in similar offences despite earlier bail raised concerns about possible repeat offences.

The court considered the criminal antecedents and prosecution objections while rejecting the application, according to the department.

Of the ten applications highlighted by the Prosecution Department, four were rejected in the Samba narcotics and arms case, two were rejected in separate criminal cases, three were dismissed on maintainability grounds and one was withdrawn.

The department said the outcomes followed arguments presented by prosecutors in the respective courts. (KNS)
