Srinagar, July 12 (KNS): J&K Assembly Speaker Advocate Abdul Rahim Rather has responded to PDP President Mehbooba Mufti’s social media post regarding the resolution on declaring 13th July as an official holiday, calling her statement misleading and not based on facts.
According to KNS, Rather clarified that the resolution submitted by Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra during the Budget Session 2025-26 in March was admitted by the Assembly Secretariat. A total of 111 resolutions from 34 members were received, out of which 87 were admitted for balloting and the rest were disallowed as per rules.
Parra had submitted four resolutions, and two of them—including the one seeking to declare 13th July as a holiday to honour the 1931 martyrs—were admitted.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelAs per the Assembly rules, a balloting process held on 25th March 2025 determined which resolutions would be listed. In that process, 14 resolutions were selected to be taken up in the House on 7th and 9th April 2025, but Parra’s resolution did not secure a place.
Rather explained that this procedure was conducted in accordance with Rule 28 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the J&K Legislative Assembly. He said it is factually incorrect to claim that the resolution was rejected by the Speaker.(KNS)
