SMC launches major intiative at Khushalsar in collaboration with NLCO towards restoration

Srinagar, September 5 (KNS): In order to achieve comprehensive restoration objective, a major initiative by SMC was launched by SMC today in Khushalsar from Sazgaripora side by managing the Trees.

In a statement issued to KNS, "Some Trees that used to block the view, hamper the restoration process & many trees planted deliberately to make a shield so that under the trees illegal encroachments could be erected and waterbody could be filled and occupied."

Taking action on the special instructions of Principal Secretary HU&DD, SMC commissioner today sent a special team headed my Shahid to cut the trees in association with NLCO. From morning teams of SMC, NLCO, Forest Department and stakeholders arrived to participate.

"Today’s drive held at Sazgaripora side is being seen as a major step towards reclaiming the land occupied. The drive will continue in the days to come," it said.

It is pertinent to mention that the restoration of these twin urban lakes (Gilsar-Khushalsur) will have a great positive affect on Dal and Nigeen and ultimately it will give a new dimension to the Tourism. Tourism fraternity must offer their sincere support towards the initiative.
