Setting-up polling booth at large distance contrary to electoral process. Mohd Amin Bhat

Srinagar Dec 08 (KNS): Stating that the polling stations in Devsar, Vessu and Qazigund territorial blocks in Anantnag and Kulgam District have been setup at a large distance, determinantal to the polling process, Senior Congress Leader and Former MLA Mohd Amin Bhat today hit out at the election authorities for shifting polling booths from their original locations in a hurry.

Bhat termed the move as undemocratic and contrary to the ongoing democratic process.

In a statement issued to news agency-kashmir news service(KNS), Mohd Amin Bhat lashed out at elections authorities and said that the electorates were not happy with present location of the polling booths in Devsar, Vessu and Qazigund Territorial Blocks, which have been shifted from their original location, without taking care of the voters, as it would be difficult for them to caste their vote after covering a large distance.

The election commission of J&K must keep vigil on such exercises, which have been done without taking into account the large distance to be covered by the voters, as a result, the voters were not happy with location change of their respective pooling booths, Senior Congress Leader said.

He said various polling stations have been set up at a large distance of almost four to five Kms from their previous and original location such as in LG Pora B,C,D, Chirhama, Khosipora, Mushkud, Chaine, Babpora etc, as a result the electorates now seem to be less interested to participate in voting, which was not in the interest of democratic process and has to be corrected before the polling would take place, Bhat said.

I would urge upon the Elections Commission of J&K to look into the matter, besides rescinding the order of shifting of polling booths in DDC Devsar Vessu and Qazigund blocks from their original location, enabling the electorates to take part in democratic process with great enthusiasm, Bhat added and said that setting up polling booths at large distance makes no sense, bound to impact the electoral process, which has to be avoided.(KNS)
