School of Humanities & Liberal Arts cluster university jammu organises online essay competition on int'l women's day

Jammu 08 March (KNS): School of Humanities and Liberal Arts, Cluster University of Jammu organized Online Essay Writing Competition to celebrate International Women’s Day
under the patronship of Dean Academic Affairs, Prof. Bhupinder Singh. The
topic of the essay competition was “Most Inspirational Female Fictional
Character in Literature.” The competition was open for the students of English
Honours, Linguistics and English Literature from P.G. Govt. College for Women
Gandhi Nagar, Govt. MAM College and the School of Humanities and Liberal
Arts. Over 50 entries were received from these colleges wherein the students
enumerated the leadership qualities, qualities of head and heart and the spirit
of determination and independence in these fictional heroines of various
literary texts. The event was coordinated under the supervision of Head
Department of English, Dr. Twinkle Suri and Head Department of Linguistics
and Literature, Dr. Reena Salaria. The jury members for adjucation of the
essays included Dr. Geetanjali Multani, H.O.D. Department of English, GDC
Paloura and Dr. Ritu Magotra, H.O.D. Department of English, GCW Parade. The
winners of the competition were: Hiteshi Taggar, Semester III, English
Honours, GCW Gandhi Nagar who bagged 1 st prize, second prize was bagged
by Manya Jain, Semester V, English Honours, GCW Gandhi Nagar and Kritika
Sambyal, Semester VII, PGI English Honours, School of Humanities and Liberal
Arts in a tie, the third prize went to Ambika Sharma, Semester I, English
Honours, GCW Gandhi Nagar. The consolation prize went to Shivya Gupta,
Semester I, and Nikita Sharma, Semester III, both from PGI English Honours,
School of Humanities and Liberal Arts. The event was organized to create
awareness among students regarding women and their issues pertaining to
choice, voice, safety and rights.(KNS)
