Hajin, Bandipora, Jan 22 (KNS): Atleast half a kilometer of main road in Hajin town in Bandipora district has caved in this morning, sparking protests by locals against the flood control and irrigation department.
Locals said that the landslide in the road has disconnected the area from main market to Hajin bridge
The locals said that they had informed the irrigation and flood control (IFC) department but they paid no attention toward it.
“The department is in deep slumber,” Irfan Ahmad, a local said.
The locals said that if the department fails to take measures they will start protests against the government and the department.
Meanwhile, Sub district Magistrate Sumbal Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, Executive engineer IFC division Sumbal, AEE IFC Sumbal and other police officials visited the spot.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
The IFC officials immediately contacted chief engineer IFC, and soon after an expert team arrived to assess the damage to the road.
The officials made requested the sand diggers to stop illegal sand extraction in the river Jhelum.
Talking to KNS, AEE IFC Sub division Sumbal said that illegal extraction of sand will be stopped soon.
“We have already talked to police to police and SDM Sumbal in for police protection when we take action against the sand extractors,” he said. (KNS)
