Address issue of 60 thousand daily wagers before assembly elections

Srinagar, Sep 26 (KNS): Senior vice president People’s Conference (PC) and former minister Abdul Gani Vakil Sunday criticized Union Territory Administration for failing to provide employment opportunities to educated youth in the region and have left their demands unheard.

Addressing the youth workers of PC Rafiabad in Nowpora Rafaibad, he said the lofty claims and announcements of administration of employment have remained restricted to papers only. Vakil said such claims were also made by ex-governor Satpal Malik, who promised 50, 000 jobs to youth.

“Although youth filed their forms in some government departments, things remain unchanged on the ground. It is unfortunate the youth are being neglected by the present administration and there are unemployment crisis in the region,” he said.

Vakil said it is irony the instead of providing employment opportunities for youth, government is terminating employees from the government services. He cited a recent example of 918 helpers to supervisors in the Social welfare department who were terminated without any concrete reasons, which is injustice and unfair with them, he said.

“We demand they should be re-engaged, so that their families will not suffer anymore, otherwise such policies will have an adverse effect on society,” he said.

The senior PC leader said there are more than 60 thousand daily wagers working in different government departments and every regime government sidelined their demands and neglected them.

“It would have been a kind gesture of the LG administration, if they could have been accommodated permanently in respective departments, before the onset of assembly elections. The step would be appreciated from all quarters and through this step, there will be more participation from the people,” he said.

Vakil urged the UT government that on an immediate basis, there should be a concrete policy to address the unemployment crisis in the region so that youth will not feel alienated anymore.

The meeting was attended by Khawaja Ghulam Nabi Shah, Block Development Chairman Ghulam Mohammad Mir, Youth leader Tariq Ahmad Mir, Women youth leader Taslima Akhtar, Block President Shiekh Gulam Nabi, and General Secretary Abdul Salaam. (KNS)
