Professor, Dr Salim Khan conferred with prestigious NAMS fellowship

Srinagar, Nov 9 (KNS) : Dr. S. Muhammad Salim Khan, professor & head, department of community medicine, government medical college, Srinagar was conferred with fellow of national academy of medical sciences (FAMS) award which was presided by Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh, Governor of Haryana during the convocation of national academy of medical sciences (NAMS) during 65th annual conference of NAMS (NAMSCON 2025) held at PGIMER, Chandigarh on 08th November 2025.

He has been elected as a fellow of national academy of medicine sciences (India) for the year 2025 in recognition of his academic excellence and professional achievements as per the official communique. He was earlier elected as member of NAMS a decade back. He is second NAMS Fellow from GMC Srinagar, the first being Prof. Syed Naseer Ahmad Shah, former principal & dean who was awarded FAMS in
1979.

Dr. Muhammad Salim Khan has done MBBS and MD in Social & Preventive Medicine (now called Community Medicine) from government medical college Srinagar under Kashmir university and has also done post-graduate diploma in hospital and health management (PGDHHM) and ICMR sponsored post-graduate diploma in bioethics (PGD bioethics) from IGNOU.

He has Certificate of Achievement of MECOR Level 1, 2 & 3 from American Thoracic Society. He achieved two-year FAIMER fellowship with distinction from foundation for advancement of medical education & research (FAIMER, Philadelphia) at PSG- FAIMER regional institute, Coimbatore in 2013, being first FAIMER fellow from GMC Srinagar.

He has also been conferred fellowship awards in recognition of his contributions in Public Health by Indian Public Health Association (FIPHA), Indian Association of Preventive & Social Medicine (FIAPSM) and Indian Medical Association – Academy of Medical Specialties (FIAMS).Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHe has around 150 research publications to his credit including publications in The Lancet, The Lancet Regional Health-Southeast Asia, BMJ Open, PLOS journal series (PLOS One, PLOS Medicine PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases), IJMR etc. He has been principal investigator of over a dozen multi-centric studies including vaccine trials.

He’s member of around twenty committees established by government and other agencies and is also member of about thirty international and national professional & humanitarian societies and bodies. He is chairman of two institutional ethics committees and member of few more institutional ethics committees and review boards of various universities, institutions and medical colleges in J&K. He is unit head of international chair in bioethics (previously UNESCO chair in bioethics) since 2015.

Dr. Muhammad Salim Khan is also currently president of J&K Medical Council overlooking registration of allopathic doctors and ethical conduct of medical practitioners, and also conducted one conference (JK MEDICON 2025) and CME on bioethics & medical education by international faculty this year under J&K Medical Council banner.

As HOD Community Medicine, GMC Srinagar he has also been conducting workshops in quantitative and qualitative research methodology, systematic review & meta-analysis, etc. for faculty and resident doctors over last eleven years. He organized four-day 52nd annual national level conference of Indian association of preventive & social medicine (IAPSMCON 2025) in April this year at SKICC Srinagar with over 1200 registered delegates.

He appears regularly on media for health awareness and advisories, and has created institutional health awareness platform on YouTube titled Kashealth, supported by J&K National Health Mission.(KNS)
