Political prisoners ‘spokespersons of nation’: Shah

Calls for devising strategy to secure their release

Srinagar, Feb 07 (KNS): The incarcerated chairman of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah on Tuesday called for devising a strategy and starting a campaign for the release of prisoners serving life sentence. He also urged the “justice-loving” people and organisations across the world to take cognisance of the issue.
In a statement issued to KNS, Shah said, “We cannot remain mute spectators to such a serious issue as Indian judiciary by overlooking all the norms of justice and fair-play has resorted to sheer political vengeance against these political prisoners. All the doors of justice have been closed to them and what prevails is the judicial tyranny.”
Referring to UN charter, the DFP chairman observed, “Those arrested while struggling for the liberation of their land from foreign aggression or occupation fall into the domain of ‘prisoners of war’ and cannot be tried in criminal courts.”
Expressing solidarity with the families of political prisoners, Shah slammed the local pro-India politicians for deceiving and hijacking the sentiments of people for their “petty material gains” saying these people by acting as collaborators are largely responsible for strengthening India’s occupation of Jammu Kashmir.
He also appealed the UN, international human rights bodies, ICRC to use their good offices in securing the release of these political prisoners.
Shah described the political prisoners as “spokespersons of the nation” saying our hearts always remember the heroes like Dr Muhammad Qasim Faktoo, Dr Muhammad Shafi Shariati, Ghulam Qadir Bhat, Muhammad Amin Dar, Javaid Ahmad Khan, Muhammad Ayoub Dar, Mehmood Topiwala, Nazir Ahmad Sheikh, Ghulam Muhammad Bhat, Barkat Ali Khan, Muhammad Iqbal Khan, Muhammad Sadiq Gujjar, Mahindya Gujjar, Noor Muhammad Tantray, Parvez Ahmad Mir, Feroz Ahmad Bhat, Muhammad Aslam, Sheikh Imran, Muhammad Sayeed Bhat, Fayaz Ahmad Shah, Showkat Ahmad Khan, Muhammad Akeel Wani, Gul Muhammad Khan, Mushtaq Ahmad Khan, Muhammad Hassan Malik, Muhammad Ishfaq Pal, Mushtaq Ahmad Malla, Shabir Ahmad Bhat, Abdul Waheed Naik, Maqsood Ahmad Bhat, Nisar Mirza, Bilal Kota, Latief Waja, Abdul Majeed Mughal, Muhammad Muzaffar Dar, and Rafiq Ahmad Shah.
“We’re indebted to the invaluable sacrifices of these prisoners. We’ll vehemently campaign for their release,” he added. (KNS)
