Police seizes illicit timber in Baramulla & Handwara, 02 accused arrested

Srinagar May 05 (KNS): Police have seized illicit timber in Baramulla & Handwara and arrested 02 accused persons involved in the commission of crime.

In Baramulla, a police party of Police Station Uri under the supervision of SDPO Uri Shri Shokat Ali-JKPS assisted by SHO PS Uri, arrested 02 timber smugglers identified as Hakim Din son of Faqir Mohd Sheikh & Qadeer Ahmad son of Hakim Din Sheikh both residents of Choolan Kalsan Uri who are being involved in cutting down forest timber illegally and were selling at higher rates. Illicit forest timber measuring about 40 CFTs were recovered from their possession in Choolan Uri. They have been shifted to police station where they remain in custody.

In Handwara, during the intervening night of 4/5 May, Police Post Chogul seized 3 logs of illicit timber from the possession of one person namely Aijaz Ahmad Dar son of Mohd Rajab Dar resident of Haran Takibal. However, the accused person involved in the commission of crime taking advantage of the darkness managed to flee from the spot and efforts are on to effect his arrest.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective Police Stations and investigation initiated.

The drive against timber smugglers will continue to ensure protection of green gold. Our consistent actions against anti-social elements should reassure the community members that we are making every effort to keep our society free of crime. Police have resolved to act as per law against those who indulge in criminal & anti-social activities.(KNS)
