Police arrests 04 drug peddlers in Awantipora, Anantnag

Srinagar February 06:(KNS)   Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested 04 drug peddlers in Awantipora & Anantnag and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

Officers at a checkpoint established at Frestabal Pampore intercepted a vehicle (Ertiga) bearing registration number JK13C-3044 with three persons on board. They have been identified as Khalil Ahmad Choudhary son of Mohd Sharif resident of Rajouri, Hassan Mohd Bajran son of Fakeer Mohd resident of Rajouri Bagla and Abdul Gani Mir son of Abli Mir resident of Frestabal Pampore.  During checking, officers were able to recover 5Kgs of grinded Cannabis from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to PS Pampore where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

Similarly in Anantnag, Police Station Mattan received a specific information through reliable sources that one person namely Azad Ali Khan son of Gull Ali Khan resident of Wantrag Kehirabal has indulged in drug peddling and hoarded a large quantity of narcotic substances in his residential house.

On receipt of this information, a Police party of PS Mattan alongwith Executive Magistrate concerned raided the said location. During search, officers were able to recover 16Kgs of Poppy straw and 47 bottles of illicit liquor from the said house. The accused person was arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law stands registered at respective police stations and investigation have been taken up.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace.(KNS
