Rafiabad, Dec 3(KNS): Residents of Tehsil Dangiwacha in North Kashmir have raised concerns over inadequate healthcare facilities at the local Primary Health Centre (PHC) and urged the government to upgrade it to a Sub-District Hospital (SDH).
Locals said that despite the construction of a new hospital building intended for an upgraded SDH, the institution continues to function as a PHC, leaving thousands dependent on limited services.
Several key medical positions remain vacant, including those of a gynaecologist and a paediatrician. The absence of surgeons has compelled patients to travel outside the tehsil for even routine medical treatment, residents said.
The PHC houses a fully digital X-ray plant, but the facility has not been made operational due to the absence of a trained technician.
Ultrasound (USG) services are reportedly available only four times a month, restricting diagnostic support for expectant mothers and other patients.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel
Residents described the healthcare setup as inadequate, particularly in emergencies. “The new building is ready and functional, but the hospital still runs as a PHC. We need gynaecologists, surgeons, and full-time radiology staff,” a local resident said.
The people of Dangiwacha have appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the Health Minister, and the Secretary Health for immediate intervention.
They called for the PHC’s upgradation to an SDH and posting of essential medical staff to ensure the region receives adequate healthcare services.
Residents said timely government action could significantly ease the hardships of thousands who rely solely on the Dangiwacha hospital for medical care.(KNS).
