Major Crackdown on Illegal Mineral Extraction in Zalwan, Bandipora; 16 Vehicles Seized During Joint Raid

Bandipora, Dec 01(KNS): In a significant enforcement action against illegal mineral extraction, the Department of Geology and Mining, in close coordination with the Bandipora Police, conducted a major joint raid in the Zalwan area of Bandipora. The operation was launched following credible inputs about unauthorized extraction and transportation of minor minerals from the region.

According to officials, the enforcement team reached the site early in the day and found active illegal mining underway. The team acted immediately, halting the ongoing extraction and intercepting multiple vehicles involved in transporting the material. During the raid, 14 tractors and 2 tippers used for unlawful mineral transportation were seized on the spot.

Authorities confirmed that the drivers and owners of the seized vehicles are being identified, and legal proceedings under the relevant sections of mining and environmental regulations have already been initiated.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelThe department emphasized that such actions will continue to be taken against individuals or groups involved in illegal extraction, which not only causes revenue loss to the government but also poses environmental risks to the region.

Officials further stated that the crackdown is part of a broader strategy to ensure strict compliance with mining rules and to protect natural resources in Bandipora district. Enhanced surveillance, routine inspections, and coordinated enforcement operations with police authorities will remain in force to curb illegal mining practices.

The Department of Geology and Mining has urged the public to cooperate and report any suspicious extraction activities, reiterating that preserving the district’s ecological balance remains a top priority for the administration. (KNS)
