Handwara, Sept 7 (KNS) : In an inspiring example of women’s empowerment and self-reliance, Nargis Yousuf, a PG B.Ed graduate from Phoropeth, Langate in Handwara, has chosen entrepreneurship over waiting for a government job and opened her own tailoring shop in the local market.

Nargis completed her PG B.Ed from the University of Kashmir. Alongside her studies, she had a keen interest in tailoring and embroidery. After returning home, she initially started working from her house and gradually turned her passion into a small business.

Today, she runs her tailoring shop in Pohrupeth market, where different types of women’s wear, including abayas, stoles, nose pieces and other items, are available. She has also started making abayas at her shop.

The initiative has created employment opportunities for other young women as well. Several girls are working alongside Nargis, learning tailoring skills and becoming part of the growing venture. One of the girls associated with the shop is also skilled in applying mehndi.

Speaking about her journey, Nargis said she had faced discouragement from some relatives and friends when she decided to pursue tailoring as a profession.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp ChannelHowever, she remained determined and continued working towards her goal.

Nargis said her parents and brothers supported her throughout the journey and helped her establish the shop.

She said her father works as a medical assistant, while her two brothers are engaged in small businesses. Rather than becoming dependent on her family or waiting indefinitely for a government job after completing her education, Nargis decided to start her own business and become financially independent.

“I do not want to depend on anyone. I want to earn for myself and stand on my own feet,” she said.

Nargis also urged educated young women who are sitting idle at home to explore self-employment opportunities instead of waiting only for government jobs.
She said women today can succeed in a wide range of fields, including tailoring, makeup artistry, beauty parlours, boutiques, hosiery shops and other small businesses.

Nargis’s journey highlights how education, skill development and determination can help young women become financially independent while also creating employment opportunities for others.(KNS)
