Srinagar, Oct 25 (KNS): Tourist resorts of Pahalgam and Gulmarg in Kashmir have recorded the season's first sub-zero temperatures, with the mercury dipping below the freezing point at both places, independent weather forecaster Kashmir Weather said on Sunday.
Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature of minus 0.3 degrees Celsius, while Gulmarg in north Kashmir registered minus 0.4 degrees Celsius, according to the forecaster.
The development comes as Kashmir gradually moves towards winter, with several higher-altitude areas receiving the season's first snowfall following a spell of rain and gusty winds earlier this week. A feeble western disturbance brought light rain and thundershowers to parts of the Valley on Friday evening, while snowfall was reported in the Aharbal mountains of south Kashmir's Kulgam district.

Light snowfall was also reported at Peer Ki Gali, Sinthan Top and Margan Top — important mountain passes connecting different parts of Jammu and Kashmir. While Peer Ki Gali connects Kashmir with Poonch, Sinthan Top links the Valley with Kishtwar, and Margan Top connects the Valley with the twin areas of Warwan and Marwah.
The weather activity followed a day of bright sunshine, with clouds gathering over the Valley towards evening, accompanied by gusty winds and light precipitation in several areas.
The Meteorological Department has forecast light rain at isolated places between November 1 and 3. (KNS)
