PAGD candidates are being harassed to switch sides: Omar Abdullah

Srinagar, Dec 26 (KNS): National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah Saturday alleged that LG Manoj Sinha led admin is using forcible means to compel winning DDC candidates of PAGD to fall in the lap of JK Apni Party.
The former chief minister Omar Abdullah who was addressing media persons in Gupkar Srinagar, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and LG Manoj Sinha are beating drums that democracy has won in recently concluded DDC elections but the bitter fact is that the ethos and principles of democracy have been brazenly discredited in Jammu and Kashmir. He said the incumbent administration of J&K led by LG Manoj Sinha is employing police force to harass the winning DDC candidates of PAGD who are being asked covertly to join JK Apni Party.
He said the administration has resorted to "horse trading" while forcing PAGD candidates in one pretext or other to fall into the lap of JK Apni Party. He during a presser played a call recording as to how the husband of a woman candidate from Shopian who had won was allegedly forced to “make his wife join Apni Party forcibly in lieu of getting her brother in law released from detention.
Omar said that winning candidates of PAGD are being threatened, humiliated and coerced to join Apni Party, which is a B-team of BJP.”
The former CM said those rejecting to succumb before pressure tactics are being kept under arbitrary detention. “The game has been started from Shopian where NC’s associates including Sowkat Ganai and Shabir Ahmed Kullay have been kept under detention for no reason,” he said, alleging that “perhaps the price of setting these leaders is to join the Apni Party.”
He added that democracy has been murdered in J&K by resorting to coercive means from administrarion who is siding with BJP and their proxies.
"The verdict of DDC polls was loud and clear that people voted for PAGD and the message is August 5, 2019 decisions weren’t acceptable to people of J&K", Omar said. (KNS)
