One-week collaborative training programme on ‘TQM for SMEs’ held at S.P College

Srinagar, Feb 22 (KNS): A week-long training programme on ‘Total Quality Management Practices for SMEs’ was held at S.P College Srinagar.

The programme was organised from February 15-21 jointly by Innovation, Incubation and  Entrepreneurship (SKIIE) Centre of SKUAST-K and S.P College. It was sponsored by Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

The training programme aimed to equip budding entrepreneurs with new knowledge, training and skill up-gradation. The participants were trained for creating successful TQM implementation, building organisations, operational excellence and requirement of organizations to focus on continuous improvement. Several lectures and discussion sessions in the programme focused on imparting technical knowledge and making participants aware about the integrated approach of the organisational process with special reference to TQM.

Students of UG, IG and PG courses of the college attended the programme.

The inaugural session was attended by College Principal, Prof (Dr) Khursheed A Khan, officials from SKUAST-K, HoDs of various departments, faculty members from SKAUST-K and S.P. College and students.

Dr F A Shaheen programme coordinator, gave a brief description of the programme and thanked the authorities of SKUAST-K and S.P. College for their support and encouragement.

Prof. Haroon Rashid Naik, Director Strategic Planning & Monitoring, SKUAST-K, also the patron of this programme, highlighted the significance of enterprises and start-ups in today’s world and need to encourage first generation entrepreneurs to venture into self-employment opportunities

Prof (Dr) Khurshid Ahmed Khan, co-patron of the programme, delivered the welcome address and encouraged the student community to understand that self-employment is the need of the hour. He thanked Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice-Chancellor SKUAST-K, for his cooperation for this week-long programme.

Dr Shabana Aslam, Programme Coordinator and Convenor, Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development (CIED) S.P. College, highlighted the achievements of the centre and also thanked Convenor SKUAST-Kashmir Innovation, Incubation & Entrepreneurship (SKIIE) centre for collaborating in this Programme and hoped for many more collaborations between the two centres in future, for the welfare of the student community.

Dr Omar Fayaz, Assistant Professor SKUAST-K conducted the proceedings of the event and  presented the vote of thanks at the inaugural session, which was also attended by senior officers, faculty members from SKUAST-K and different departments of S.P. College.

The technical sessions were conducted by the resource persons from the reputed institutions of the Valley including SKUAST-K, IUST-Awantipora, GDC, Baramulla and S.P. College.

Different sessions of the programme were moderated and documented by programme coordinators from the S.P. College including Dr. Khursheed A Parray, Dr. Shabana Aslam, Dr. Roohi Khan, Dr. Showkat Ahmad Wani  and Mr. Aijaz Ahmad.

The training programme culminated with a brainstorming session by Dr F A Shaheen, SKUAST-K. Dr Shabana Aslam presented a formal vote of thanks at closing ceremony.(KNS)
