Anantnag, Dec 29 (KNS): Kashmir University's South Campus organised a one-day seminar on 'Special Education: Issues and Challenges'. 

Experts on special education, including Padma Shri Javaid Ahmad Tak, delivered special lectures on various facets of special education and how it can transform the society into a truly inclusive place for specially-abled children. 

In his welcome address, Director, South Campus, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad Khanday emphasised the importance of a strong linkage between the traditional classroom teaching and societal issues.  He appreciated the Department of Education, South Campus, the main organiser of the seminar, for sensitising people on important societal concerns, including special education. 

Javaid Ahmad Tak, in his keynote address, talked about the concept of special education, its current status, concerns and future challenges. He called for a collective and collaborative effort to facilitate education of specially-abled children while doing away with obstacles, if any, in the process.

Shaheel Mohammad, In-charge Special Cell Department of Students Welfare KU and Tariq Bashir Assistant Professor, Degree College Utrsoo also spoke on the occasion and offered their insights into the issue of special education with reference to Jammu and Kashmir.

Academic Coordinator, Department of Education Moomin Jan conducted the proceedings of the seminar, which started with the recitation of verses of Holy Quran by Amir Ashraf, a student of MA Education. 

Special children from Zaiba-Apa Institute of Inclusive Education gave a practical demonstration of use of Brail System and use of Sign Language and other related activities.
