Reshipora Villagers Stage Protest Over Prolonged Water Shortage

Kulgam, July 3 (KNS): Residents of Reshipora village in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district staged a protest on Thursday over a severe shortage of drinking water in their area, blocking the main road and halting traffic for several hours.

Men, women, and elderly residents gathered on the road, raising slogans against the Jal Shakti Department and district authorities for failing to resolve the issue despite repeated complaints.

“We’ve been suffering without clean water for weeks. Authorities are ignoring our appeals,” said a local protester.

The road blockade caused major inconvenience to commuters and disrupted normal life in the area.Click Here To Follow Our WhatsApp Channel

Following the protest, DySP Headquarters Nisar Ahmad and Tehsildar Kulgam reached the spot and assured the residents that their concerns would be taken up urgently.

Executive Engineer Jal Shakti Department, Ishfaq Ahmad, also met the protesters and promised that the water supply would be restored within a week. “We are working to ensure uninterrupted water supply to Reshipora,” he said.

The residents temporarily called off the protest but warned of further agitation if the issue is not resolved soon.(KNS)
