Working on a schedule to send senior officials to border villages: DC Kupwara

Kupwara October 18 (KNS): To ensure the better delivery of good governance in border areas, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha's directive to Kupwara district administration to send its senior officials to visit border villages and stay overnight for a ground assessment of challenges and opportunities has yet to be initiated.

The goal is to plan activities, programs, and innovative measures for the mainstreaming of these villages.

However, the district administration of Kupwara has yet to respond to the Lieutenant Governor's directives. Nevertheless, the administration is in the process of preparing a schedule to deploy senior officials to stay overnight to assist the people living in border areas.

The directives issued by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha have raised hopes among the people living along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district. In winter, the three small areas—Tangdar, Keran, and Machil—lose road connectivity due to heavy snow and remain cut off for days or even weeks.

These areas are scattered and situated at high altitudes, resulting in significant hardships during the winter months, including issues related to connectivity, electricity, and health emergencies. People also lose their daily earnings due to a lack of work opportunities.

However, since the LG administration has directed the district administration to send senior officials to spend a night in the border villages, it is expected to alleviate the suffering of the people living in the border areas of Kupwara.

Advocate Najma, a DDC member from Tangdar, welcomed the directives passed by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. She expressed that this is the first time they have seen such an initiative for the people living in border areas. However, she also expressed concerns about the execution of these directives. The visit of senior officials to the border villages during the winter will help alleviate the hardships faced by the people in the border areas, she added.

Liyaqat Joo, a student from Keran, mentioned that life in the border villages is quite different from what they experience in the plains of Kupwara or other areas.

The visit of senior officials to their border villages will give them a better understanding of the problems faced by the people living there and welcomed the directives from LG Manoj Sinha.

Speaking to KNS, Deputy Commissioner Ayushi Sudan said the Kupwara administration is currently working on a schedule to send its senior officials to the border villages to stay overnight for a ground assessment of challenges and opportunities and to plan activities.

She added that the visit of senior officials will help assess the difficulties faced by people living in the border areas.(KNS)
